Abstract
Nucleolar changes were used to assess activated lymphocytes. About 10 per cent of peripheral lymphocytes in hamsters are activated by this criterion. This figure rises to 20–30 per cent following inoculation with SV40-transformed hamster cells. It reverts to normal or below at 3 weeks in those animals which develop macroscopic tumours but stays elevated in those animals which reject their tumours.
