The anti-inflammatory effects of ketoprofen (Alrheumat) in inflamed areas are achieved by antagonizing inflammation mediators or blocking their synthesis. In addition to this peripheral effect, central analgesic and antipyretic effects also are detectable. The pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic properties of ketoprofen clearly distinguish it from other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents. These properties could also explain the low number of side-effects.
