Abstract
40 cases, 36 from the literature and 4 of ours, of rupture of the posterior wall of the left ventricle following prosthetic mitral valve replacement are presented. Twelve of these patients survived. Possible causes of this complication, the therapeutic approach and its prevention are discussed.
