Two groups of diabetics who were diagnosed before the age of 15 years and followed by the same doctors of 20-25 years were compared. The frequency of complications was significantly different in France compared to that in the United States. The differences may be dietary in origin because in France the diet is high in carbohydrate and low in fat but in the United States the diet is high in fat and low in carbohydrate.
