Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is recognized to occur in several forms. Primary proximal RTA presents in infancy, almost exclusively in males, and is the only form of primary RTA that is transient. Distal RTA is encountered in familial and sporadic forms, the latter predominantly in females. A severe form of distal RTA in infancy, recently recognized, may represent still another type of the disease.
肾小管酸中毒（RTA）有多种形式。原发性近端肾小管酸中毒在婴儿期出现，几乎仅见于男性，是原发性肾小管酸中毒中唯一呈一过性的形式。远端肾小管酸中毒有家族性和散发性两种形式，后者主要见于女性。最近发现的婴儿期严重远端肾小管酸中毒可能代表该病的另一种类型。
