The iliac compression syndrome is a congenital vascular anomaly which is presumed to predispose to deep thrombophlebitis. In untreated cases, severe changes with edema of the lower limbs and leg ulcers which is resistent to treatment frequently develop. The diagnosis is established by pelvic phlebography and measurement of venous pressure during weight-bearing. A case is described in which vascular surgery resulted in healing of the ulcerations and considerable improvement of the remaining symptoms.
