Cephalosporins, especially cephaloridine (Kefspor), are examined in vitro for their influence on several methods for the determination of creatinine. Two chemical methods frequently used in clinical laboratories (Jaffé test reaction) and one enzymatic creatinine analysis are used for this purpose. Depending on the quality of cephalosporin added, excessively high creatinine contents are determined with the two chemical methods, whereas there seems to be no effect on the enzymatic creatinine determination method. The significance of these findings for clinical diagnostics is discussed.
