Administration of 0.25% -- 2.0% solutions of MgCl2 (5 ml/100 g) into the stomach of unanesthetized rats revealed that it is the 0.75% solution which is most efficiently removed. The kidney removes 3.9% of administered magnesium within 4 hrs, and 18.9%--within 24 hrs. All the administered fluid is absorbed within 3 hrs, but 32% of magnesium salts remain in the gastro--intestinal tract. The liver is no depot for the magnesium, the latter being distributed over different organs and tissues. Within 24 hrs magnesium is removed by the kidney and intestine, for on the 5th day after daily administration of 790 Mequiv. of magnesium per 100 g ob body weight during 4 days, its concentration in the blood serum does not differ from initial values.
