143 cases of total gastrectomy in cancer of the stomach from 1961 to 1976 are reported. A satisfactory function is observed in long living patients having a substitute stomach formation ("Ringplastik") as well as in those having been operated according to the method of Graham. The rare occurrence of reflux oesophagitis is attributed to a special technique for anastomosis.
