[ATPase activity and proton permeability of mitochondrial membranes in thymus hormone deficiency].

The authors studied the effect of thymectomy on the function of the mitochondria isolated from male rat liver. Six to 12 months after thymectomy there was a decrease in the activity of proton ATPase of the liver mitochondria as compared with a respective control group. According to the data obtained an increase in proton conduction of the external mitochondrial membrane plays an important role in the mechanism of the above-described changes.
