Effects to prevent childhood accidents should be directed at the causes of serious injury and death, rather than at the causes of the vast number of emergency department trivial injuries. This paper analyses fatal accidents, and suggests areas in which efforts at prevention may be effective. It emphasizes the importance of motor car accidents, and drowning accidents in childhood.
