The onset of an acute anterior ischemic optic neuropathy in a patient with polyarteritis nodosa was followed, one week later, by the development of a visual field defect with normal fundus in the opposite eye, probably due to a posterior ischemic optic neuropathy. The latter was improved by plasmapheresis.
