[Accidental hypothermia].

Accidental hypothermia in the elderly is a rather unknown clinical syndrome in Germany. Manifestations are those of a generalized disease without striking symptoms or signs. To assure the clinical diagnosis, a low graded thermometer is necessary. Treatment consists of slow and passive rewarming and of correction of the accompanying disturbances. As important as correct diagnosis and treatment are preventive efforts against exogenous and endogenous risk factors.
