Prostatic carcinoma is a common cancer. It shows geographical differences in incidence which may help in the search for its etiology. It differs from lung cancer in age distribution. Recent studies on latent carcinoma show unexpected geographical trends. A number of biases must be kept in mind when studying prostatic cancer incidence and mortality figures.
