Experiments were made on 36 adult rabbits and 25 dogs. Heterogenous blood transfusion to the animals was proceded by an injection of heparin. No heparin was given to the control group. The injection of heparin to the experimental animals prior to heterotransfusion decreased lethality and the gravity of posttransfusional reactions. This was accompanied by a mildly expressed activity of the kinin system. The preliminary injection of heparin to animals before transfusion of heteroblood caused an inhibiting effect on the activity of ferments taking part in the formation of vasoactive polypeptides and contributes to preserving one of the regulating mechanisms of the kinin system, the inhibitor of kallikrein.
