The purified sugar phosphate phosphohydrolase from E. coli and N. meningitidis were used for our study and biphasic responses were observed in the presence of fluoride. 2. From the kinetic studies of fluoride inhibition, the enzymes from both bacteria appear to catalyze the hydrolysis of alpha-D-aldohexose 1-phosphate and alpha-D-aldohexose 6-phosphate at two distinct catalytic sites.
