Brucellosis continues to be a very important disease in the United States and throughout the world. In the past year, New York State has experienced a significant increase in the number of infected dairy herds. Increased movement of cattle, including importations, has contributed to its spread. Prevention, control and eradication have been impeded by present housing and management practices and the frequent apathy on the part of the herd owner in implementing prescribed recommendations for the elimination of brucellosis.
