[Passage of ceftriaxone in the aqueous humor and tears. Comparison with other beta-lactams].

The intraocular distribution of ceftriaxone (a new cephalosporin of the third generation) was studied in 33 patients undergoing cataract surgery. The mean level of antibiotic in the aqueous humor was of 0,53 micrograms/ml (1.25% of the serum level), in the tears show an average rate of 5.75 micrograms/ml (13% of the serum level) was found. A study of the kinetics in the tears shows increasing levels for the first 18th hours.
