A retrospective analysis of 50 cases of haematemesis and melaena during the period from June 1978 to July 1983 at Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) was undertaken to establish the cause, clinical profile and prognosis of this problem. Acute erosive gastritis is the commonest cause of acute gastro-intestinal bleeding found in this study. The significance of its occurrence, age and sex distribution, associated aetiological factors and management are discussed.
对1978年6月至1983年7月期间在莫尔斯比港总医院（PMGH）发生的50例呕血和黑便病例进行了回顾性分析，以确定该问题的病因、临床特征和预后。急性糜烂性胃炎是本研究中发现的急性胃肠道出血的最常见原因。文中讨论了其发生的意义、年龄和性别分布、相关病因及治疗方法。
