Abstract

Although not a common cause, increased viscosity may occasionally be associated with infertility. Specimens healthier than those with increased fertility potential should maintain their motility after reasonable intervals of time and after cryopreservation and freezing. Glasswool column filtration and alpha-amylase have been shown to improve the longevity and survival of progressive sperm in viscous samples compared to controls and the use of Alevaire and disruption methods. It appears that the use of Alevaire is detrimental to sperm.
