[Differentiation between micrococci and staphylococci by the study of the sensitivity to nitrofurantoin [N(5 nitro - 2-furfurylidene - 1-amino - hydantoin)]].

The authors have studied the sensitivity to the nitrofurantoïne of 3 328 strains of staphylococci and of 232 strains of micrococci. They have noticed that 100% staphylococci strains are sensitive and that 100% micrococci strains are resistant. They propose this sensitivity test as a simple means of differentiation between micrococci and staphylococci.
