Confinement of sows related to their productivity.

Under the continuous striving of both, the pig farmer and the research worker, towards always better adapted sow accomodation, recent sow housing changed steadily. In this paper the recent developments are given as introduction. In a second part the nowadays current sow accomodation is described, while afterwards the importance of a good zootechnical control system is stressed. Then the link between housing and productivity is given. Finally the all-dominating role of the stockman is underlined.
