The technique of parenteral nutrition is available at most hospitals in the RSA, and can be administered successfully by medical staff if the advice provided here is followed in an obsessional way. Close cooperation between nurses, physicians, surgeons and pharmacists is the key to success, and the development of a 'team approach' cannot be under-emphasized.
