Abstract
An analysis of 69 edentulous patients with severe atrophy of the mandible and submitted to ridge augmentation, together with 57 normal edentulous patients, revealed in about half of the patients with a severe atrophy radiological evidence of metabolic bone loss. In the group of normal edentulous patients, this was only found in post-menopausal women.
