The present study indicates that serum albumin is, at least in part, responsible for the previously described inhibition of lipoxygenase by serum. Albumin inhibited oxygen consumption by soybean lipoxygenase. This inhibition increased after boiling of albumin in 0.4% solution at pH 7. The inhibition was abolished when the protein was precipitated this inhibition was a result of binding of substrate to albumin. Drugs possessing high affinity to albumin abolished its inhibitory effect.
