Reference is made to a case history of prenatal use of ultrasonography, in 34th week of pregnancy by which formation of a ventral cleft in conjunction with cephalocele was diagnosed. Additional methods to secure diagnosis are described and compared, including alpha-foetal protein evaluation and amniofoetography. Also discussed are obstetric consequences likely to result from possible prepartum diagnosis of such malformations.
