Gait problems in children. A matter of rotation.

The gait disturbances commonly seen in children are usually physiologic and correct spontaneously. Conditions that fall in this category include internal femoral torsion, internal tibial torsion, metatarsus adductus, bowlegs, and knock-knees. However, metatarsus adductus may require casting, and bowlegs, if persistent, may be Blount's disease. Rickets may cause either bowlegs or knock-knees. Clubfeet are resistant to correction and warrant early orthopedic consultation.
