Hemodynamic parameters of five chronic renal failure patients have been compared intraindividually during hemodialysis, hemofiltration, and hemodiafiltration using either acetate or bicarbonate buffer. During acetate dialysis symptomatic hypotensive episodes were common. During hemofiltration with acetate buffering a satisfactory hemodynamic stability was maintained. Cardiac and circulatory compensation was found superior with bicarbonate buffering irrespective of the treatment mode.
