Dysmorphophobic patients are unreasonably concerned about their appearance and show an extreme lack of self-confidence and self-identity. In most cases dysmorphophobic symptoms indicate hidden communication problems. Schizophrenic psychosis is not uncommon in these patients. Dysmorphophobia contra-indicates surgical operation.
