The type, source, and extent of support received by the families of heart attack victims were investigated in this study to shed light on the nature of families' informal support systems. The author concludes that grown-up children and friends and neighbors were families' greatest source of emotional support but that professional intervention is needed to mobilize and supplement informal networks.
