Abstract

Local breed of chicken were surveyed serologically, using indirect haemagglutination test (IHA), for Toxoplasma infection. From a total of 250 chickens, 112 (44.80%) were seropositive at a screening dilution of 1:64. Of these 112, 58.00% were positive at 1:64; 30.36% at 1:128; 10.71% at 1:256; and 0.89% at 1:512. The results of this study point to the possible significant role of chickens in the epidemiology of animal and human toxoplasmosis in Zaria.
