Axial projections provide a new and important dimension to cardiac angiography. These techniques, however, must not be used blindly. There are several contraindications to their use as an initial approach, for example, the distortion of the usual spatial relationships between ventricles. But these projections are well suited for imaging the atrial septum, atrioventricular septal defects, anomalies of the atrioventricular junction, and other diseases.
