The hemopoietic stem cell diseases are the result of an injury to a primitive cell pool which may function as the stem cell pool for blood cell production. The wide variability in the morphologic expression (phenotype) of hemopoietic stem cell diseases is related to the intrinsic capabilities of stem cells to take various commitment pathways and proceed through many levels of differentiation and maturation.
