Some of the treatment procedures just described are, admittedly, heroic, but there are many times in today's practice of dentistry when heroics are indicated. Posterior vertical crown-root fractures seem to occur most often in terminal abutments, in periodontal disease-free mouths, and in individuals who do not easily accept the idea of tooth extraction. For these, the reward compensates for the effort and time involved.
