Evaluation of laboratory instrumentation.

Clinical laboratory instruments have increased in complexity and number. In order to simplify the selection process when a need for a new instrumentation is perceived, a program is presented which will lead to the selection of the instrument that best satisfies the laboratory's needs. Four major steps are identified: analysis of the current functional status of the laboratory, analysis of instrumentation needs, instrument evaluation, and justification and cost analysis.
