Quantitative comparison of morphological features in the receptors of central and local origin has been performed with methylene blue in the small intestine of the tortoise (Testudo horsfieldi). Comparison is made between bushy receptors of central and local origin (formed by the dendrites of cells II, Dogel's type). Despite their common plan of composition, there exist certain differences between these two types of receptors: in the receptors of local origin, unlike the receptors of central origin, terminal plaques, the diameter of the abducent fibre and the size of division areas are large; polymorphism of the terminal plaques is more pronounced. Such indices as length of terminal branches and dimensions of angles between diverging branches are larger in the receptors of central origin.
