Abstract

Two-hundred-sixty vasectomized industrial workers were randomly selected for the study group. An equal number of industrial workers were taken as matched controls. The results indicated that there was a decrease in the total low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and an increase in the high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, whereas triglycerides remained unchanged. The findings of the lipoprotein fractions corroborated well with the lipid parameters. Glucose level showed a significant decrease in the study group whereas uric acid levels remained unchanged. All the changes observed in biochemical parameters mentioned here were within the normal range. The percentage of abnormal electrocardiograms (ECG) did not show any difference between the 2 groups. Hence no adverse effects were noticed in any of the parameters studied following vasectomy.
