29 patients were operated on cerebral aneurysms and arterio-venous malformations in hypotension induced by sodium nitroprusside, nitroglycerin or a combination of the two substances. The postoperative blood pressure levels were increased to 20--40% compared to the preoperative values. This obvious rebound-effect persisted for several hours. The dangers of postoperative hypertension are demonstrated. The possible pathogenetic factors are discussed.
