The treatment of canine glaucoma.

Within the canine glaucoma complex successful therapy relies wholly upon an ability to reduce the elevated intraocular pressure to normal before irreversible tissue change can take place, and subsequently to maintain this state of normotension permanently. Treatment of the causal factor is always essential, but any therapy must always take account of the nature and extent of change within the iridocorneal angle. Long term medical control is limited to those patients in which some aqueous outflow is possible, but where there is permanent occlusion of the ciliary cleft a surgical approach proves essential if ocular structure and function are to be preserved.
