The bacteriological, epidemiological and clinical aspects of human Yersinia enterocolitica infections are discussed with reference to 580 first isolations of Yersinia enterocolitica made from 1972 to 1980 with routine procedures for salmonella/shigella diagnosis, predominantly from stool samples of patients suffering from gastrointestinal diseases.
