This is a study of 6 cases of sudden drop in visual acuity manifested by a central scotoma. Fundus examination showed ischemic oedema of the posterior pole and in 3 cases the presence of cotton wool bodies. Fluorescein angiography shows a constant delay in choroidal injection associated or not with a delay in central retinal arterial injection. All these patients have carotid artery circulatory insufficiency. We present a discussion of the pathogenesis, the possible role played by choroidal artery obstruction in the macular injury.
