[Role of the architectonic variants of the left colon vessels in the determination of the volume of radical surgery in sigmoid cancer].

The investigation of architectonics of the vessels of the left half of the colon was performed in 52 corpses. The authors think that in carcinoma of the upper third of the sigmoid colon it is necessary to fulfil the left-side hemicolectomy, in injured median and lower thirds a resection of the sigmoid colon may be considered to be radical. Remote results of the operative treatment of 91 patients with carcinoma of the sigmoid colon confirm the authors' recommendations.
