Comparative electrophysiological studies of neo- and archistriatal structures have been made during the awake state, as well as during slow wave and paradoxic phases of the sleep. The electrical activity of ancient formations of the forebrain exhibit characteristic peculiarities in all the functional conditions investigated. During slow wave sleep, groups of high amplitude waves of short duration are observed in the archistriatum which may be compared with spike-like activity during nocturnal rest in poikilotherms.
