The ankle is the site of frequent athletic injuries, the most significant of which include Achilles' rupture, peroneal tendon dislocation, and lateral ligamentous rupture. Evaluation techniques and treatment methods stressing an early but graduated return to function are discussed for the major soft tissue injuries of the ankle.
