Oral ulceration and neutropenia associated with naproxen.

A case history of oral ulceration associated with the use of naproxen has been presented. A woman, 33 years of age, was first treated with indomethacin then naproxen for rheumatoid arthritis. The ulcers which occurred initially during indomethacin therapy worsened when naproxen was substituted and abated when it was suspended. This side effect of naproxen has not previously been reported. The possible mechanism which could have caused this side effect has been discussed.
