This paper is a preliminary report on 58 patients who underwent en bloc resection for osteogenic sarcoma of the femur (30), tibia (12), shoulder girdle (15), and fibula (1). We undertook this study to determine whether en bloc resection in association with intensive chemotherapy is a realistic alternative to radical amputation and chemotherapy. Average survival for this group of patients was 38.4 months; 41 are alive with no evidence of disease, 7 are living but with disease, and 10 have died.
