Free dopamine excretion in disorders with increased prostaglandin synthesis.

The urinary excretion of free dopamine was measured in patients with increased prostaglandin synthesis and the effect of inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis on dopamine excretion was examined. Dopamine excretion in patients with Bartter's syndrome was not different from that of normal controls. Treatment with indomethacin for 6 or 7 days did not affect dopamine excretion in either Bartter's syndrome or in a group of normal control subjects. It appears that changes in endogenous prostaglandin synthesis do not affect urinary dopamine excretion.
