A case is presented of very rare primary calcareous corneal dystrophy of the Axenfeld type with spontaneous onset. To begin with the lesion was circumscript, later developing into a subepithelial annular sclerosis in both corneas by a process of peeling. There were no underlying ophthalmological diseases, no general complaints, and no laboratory basis for disturbance in calcium metabolism.
