Office bacteriology aids clinical judgment in the diagnosis of pharyngotonsillitis and enhances quality medical care. The office bacteriology laboratory requires only a small expenditure of time and money. The technique is easily learned and is sensitive. Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci can be distinguished from other beta-hemolytic streptococci because they are readily inhibited by 0.04 u. of bacitracin.
