Chronic gastroesophageal reflux may cause intensive esophageal stenosis. Terminal distal strictures are rare, more frequent are strictures in the middle third of the esophagus. Neither conservative nor palliative measures offer satisfactory results in such cases. Only surgical intervention improves dysphagia and reduces complications. In some cases also the stenosis itself has to be corrected. Various surgical techniques as well as own experiences are reported.
